Fire Damages School Under Construction in Cambridge, MA

NewYork’s News HQ

A school under construction in Cambridge went up in flames Saturday, causing millions of dollars in damage.

Cambridge firefighters received a call just before 2 p.m. reporting the fire at the Martin Luther King School on Broadway. Firefighters said the wind, along with the rubberized roof and insulation, made conditions difficult.

“The rubber product is flammable, the cement they use is highly flammable, so this is obviously a very fast-spreading, very smoky and very hot fire that was blowing across the roof,” said Cambridge Assistant Fire Chief Gerard Mahoney.
